LIA means learning at work. It is part of a Swedish higher vocational education program where the student uses their knowledge at a real workplace, receives supervision and learns how the profession works in practice.
LIA is part of the program
The school determines when the internship takes place and which learning objectives the student should reach. Its length varies between programs. The student remains enrolled throughout the placement.
The company provides real work
A useful placement has a named supervisor, clear expectations and tasks connected to the student's future profession. The student should contribute, try things independently and receive feedback rather than only observe.
How to find a placement
First confirm the dates and requirements with your school. Then create a clear profile, look for placements that fit your program and adapt each application to the company's work.
