What should you do if you cannot find an internship?

Students talking and supporting each other

If you cannot find an internship, do not wait alone for something to appear. Contact your school early, review how you are applying and broaden the companies you consider without moving away from your program's objectives.

01

Ask your school for help immediately

Explain which placements you have applied to, what responses you received and when the period starts. The school can help confirm requirements, suggest other types of companies and identify anything in the application that needs to be clearer.

02

Broaden the search without applying anywhere

Search by tasks and skills rather than one exact job title. Smaller companies, public organizations and nonprofits may have relevant work even when they use different professional terms from your program.

  • Expand the location or consider hybrid and remote work if your program permits it.
  • Contact relevant companies without a published listing.
  • Apply to several placements each week and keep track of what you have done.
03

Improve the next application

Check whether your profile shows the right profession, dates and projects. Make your answers more concrete and ask someone to read the application from the company's perspective. Keep applying while you wait for replies.
